While I can’t see you all, I thought I’d put up some tips on how to tide yourselves over. I’ve called it “Lockdown Chic”. Keep checking back for more tips!
Tip 7: Dry Shampoo. Tip 6: Royal Treatment. Tip 5: Crinkles Down. Tip 4: Little Wrigglers. Tip 3: Fringe Benefits. Tip 2: Root of the Problem. Tip 1: Give it a Break.
The time to use dry shampoo isn’t when you think you need it! After washing and styling your hair you can use dry shampoo to help keep volume at the roots but it also stops your hair from going greasy as quickly too. Just pop your head upside down and give it a good blast at the roots and away you go. You can still use it after a day or two but it won’t be quite as effective. You can also get coloured dry shampoos to help with the root situations we all have at this time. Moroccan Oil do a really nice coloured dry shampoo but you can get some fab ones from the supermarket and chemists too. Stay safe and well and wash your hands 💕🌈
Give your hair a treat this weekend. Dig out any conditioning treatments you have, or even conditioner is fine. Wash your hair and towel dry, put plenty of treatment/conditioner in your hair and comb it back or put it in a bun and leave it. Sit in the sun, sit in your lounge or kitchen, go about your chores and just leave it in. I usually wash mine back out the following morning (don’t worry that it dries in hard!) it will feel lovely and soft and will last a good few days (depending on how often you wash your hair- I’m an every day girl unfortunately).
Stay safe and well, wash your hands, and have a great easter lovelies 🐣💕🌈
A little tip for everyone using Kirby grips to pin back their fringes and keep their hair off their face.
Most people use them with the flat side against their head. This works ok. However, they were designed to work with the crinkles against your head. This way the ridged bit acts as a grip to lock your hair in place and so it wont slide out so easily. Try it and see if it makes a difference! Stay safe and well everyone!
I really wouldn’t recommend cutting kids hair. They wriggle, they fidget, they want to reach for anything they can see. It’s a bad move all round. But, if you really must have a go at at least tidying them up, here are a few tips I can share with you. I will not take any responsibility for what happens afterwards though! This can and usually will go wrong so if you do anything, do it with extreme caution and a tiny little bit at a time.
Girls or long hair will will be ok, just let it grow down and plait it or put it in a pony tail out of the way. Other than that, if they have a fringe - which we addressed in a previous post - pin it back for now.
Boys or short hair is a different matter. If they are small (3 or under) maybe try trimming around the ears and a little on the fringe but do it while they are asleep so they don’t fidget. Use a smallish, sharp pair of scissors (if you have a sewing or craft pair these are ideal) try and not use a massive pair of kitchen scissors, they will be far too big and you will have no control and if they move around you could cut them.
If they are older (4+) maybe try some different styles with them, use gel or mousse and give them spikes or a Mohawk and try and make it fun. Embrace each stage as it gets longer! Maybe even make a competition out of it. See who can get the silliest style or offer a prize for the person who grows their hair the longest.
Try not to cut it unless you just nip around the ears or a tiny bit off the fringe. Especially don’t try clippers unless you intend to shave the whole lot off. If you do, start off with the biggest guard (which will usually be no.4. If that still seems a bit long go down to 3 and so on. Only do this if you plan on giving your child a very short shaved head. It’s severe.
Good luck, stay safe and don’t blame me 😂 💕
I was going to do a video to show you all how to trim the very ends off your fringes and help to keep them out of your eyes but after thinking about it properly I didn’t think it would be very responsible of me and I actually couldn’t deal with myself if it didn’t end up going too well (high chances of that) and you ended up hating what you had done. Look at the pictures with this post- not even beautiful Queen Beyoncé can rock a badly cut fringe. It’s not right. So. A few tips to deal with a long fringe instead!
Most basic of all, get it off your face. Use a grip, use a headband, use a hairband and make a tiny pony 😂 use some product (gel, mousse, hairspray) and slick it back. Anything to get it off your face. Easiest way to help keep it back is when you have washed it, comb it back while it’s still wet and let it dry that way- it will be easier to keep back.
Style it away from your face, either flick it to the side or make a middle parting and give yourself some wings!
If you know you are going to cut it even after reading this, I can offer a few pointers. Make sure your scissors are not blunt and not massive kitchen scissors, this will not end well for your fringe or your fingers! Also take the tiniest amount possible at a time. You may have noticed if you have a fringe, that when I cut them for you I will usually do it twice, sometimes three times. I’d rather take a little and keep going over it than whack off a massive amount and leave you looking like you were attacked by Edward scissor hands 🤣 you have a guide there from what I have previously done so follow the line and take tiny chips out of it and keep checking. Do this as many times as you need until you feel happy with your work.
If you can, resist the temptation to cut it. If you can’t, don’t worry, I won’t judge (I might laugh a bit depending on what you do to it!) and I will sort it out and get you looking even more beautiful and ready to face the new world as soon as we can start taking appointments again. Stay safe and well. 💕
There are a few things you can do to disguise regrowth. The most common thing in the market at the moment is root sprays. Temporary colour that matches up your root area but washes back out again. They come in a variety of colours from blonde to black and all different makes and price ranges from £2.99 upwards. This is the best option if you are popping out and want to look a bit fresher! You can get these from supermarkets, chemists and probably pound shops too. Have a play - they are temporary so will just wash out if you don’t like the effect.
If you can’t get out and have eyeshadow in the house, some shades, applied with the applicator or with your finger will cover regrowth quite well. Choose a shade close to the colour you want and apply. Don’t use the sparkly ones and don’t rub it into your scalp!
If you just have a bit of regrowth maybe try a zigzag parting, take a comb or something with a pointy (not sharp) end and draw a zigzag down your parting and part the hair, you won’t have a definite line so won’t see your regrowth line as much.
As much as you can, resist putting a shop box colour on. They don’t usually work out to plan which means you will end up hating the look more than the roots you were trying to hide. It will also take a lot longer to get you looking back to your normal as well. 😊
First tip. It’s a quick one. If you aren’t going anywhere (you shouldn’t be!) and aren’t seeing anyone you don’t live with, give your hair a break and don’t dry it or straighten it. A few weeks with no heat will do it the world of good. If your hair is long then let it dry naturally and put it up out of the way. If it’s short comb it back when it’s wet and leave it off your face.
